Q&A: Discovery Questionnaire

In my previous article, I had written about the 10 introspective questions that will help set off the Discovery Phase of any Website Development/Redesign project. This is a Q&A article based on that Discovery Questionnaire.

1. Why do I want a website?

A: Here are my top 3 reasons:

  1. I want to share with the world the things that bring me joy and success. A website is a good way to connect with people across the barriers of distance and time.
  2. I would like to explore freelancing in the future. A website is an excellent portfolio where I can showcase my projects.
  3. I enjoy researching, writing, programming and creating. A website development project is the perfect creative outlet that combines all these.

2. What is my website about?

A: This was one of the toughest questions in my Discovery Questionnaire that took a lot of “soul-searching” to get to the answer. I will have an entire post dedicated to that. But for now, I have jotted down the three key areas my website will be about:

  1. My Life (Personal Development, Productivity, Goal Getting, Home Management)
  2. My Passion(s) (Hard to choose, but here are a few – Travel, Technology, Pocket Scrapbooking)
  3. My Projects (currently Web Development)

3. How frequently is my website updated and by whom?

A: I will update my website on a regular basis with new content every week. I also like to do collaborations with some of the awesome bloggers out there through guest posts and interviews.

4. Who are my target audience?

A: My website is as eclectic as me! So one of the key objectives of  this web development project is to capture audience demographics that will help me understand this aspect better. If it wasn’t for the Discovery Questionnaire, I wouldn’t have thought about this one at all.

5. Do I have online interactions on my website?

A: Yes. Connecting with people is one of my top reasons for a website. Interactions are intended to be through contact forms, comments, surveys/polls and social media outposts.

6. What are my online marketing goals?

A: It is good to have hobby that funds itself. So here are my online marketing goals for the rest of 2016:

  1. Branding: Get 30+ monthly visitors to my website
  2. Engagement: Make 6+ new friends through my website
  3. Visitor Conversion: Have 20+ subscribers to my newsletter

This year the key focus is on content marketing. There will be products, subscriptions and referrals, if online content creation becomes my “day job”. I am sure I will need to fill in another Discovery Questionnaire an year or so from now and re-review my answer.

7.   Top 3 keywords to find my website.

A: Here goes my top 10 search terms that comes to my mind right now:

  • Sony Simon (my name, of course!)
  • How to design my life for Happiness?
  • How to improve my Productivity?
  • How can I be a Goal Getter?
  • Website Development
  • Content Marketing
  • Social Media Strategy
  • Best Software for …
  • Best Gadget for …
  • Top 10 Places to Visit for …

8. How do I plan to integrate my website with Social Media platforms?

A: I want to integrate my website with the following social media platforms:

  • Facebook Page (for social interaction)
  • Twitter (for social interaction)
  • Google+(for social interaction and to improve SEO)
  • LinkedIn (for business networking)
  • Instagram (for image content)
  • YouTube (for video content)
  • Pinterest (for bookmarking)

9. How do I encourage repeat visitors?

A: I have a 3 pronged-approach to start with:

  1. Fresh Content every Week
  2. Social Outposts and Interaction
  3. Two-way Interaction on Website

10. Ten websites that inspire me

A: I hadn’t really thought about this one until I started working on my Discovery Questionnaire. My current (but ever-changing) top 10 list:
